Having just joined the Association, I thought I would introduce myself, and my sister. We have a Catalina G3 which she bought new around 1971. It came with a 50HP Mercury, which was a bit underpowered for the boat. But it lasted us many years, until recently. Two summers ago it was repowered with a 70HP Yamaha, and this beauty can now perform as the factory intended! The boat is still largely stock, although when the original padded black vinyl dash deteriorated, I installed a varnished wooden dash to replace it. The seats were recovered last summer, and the transom inner plywood core was replaced due to dry rot. I'm attaching a photo. We would be very interested to know if any Association members are aware of any other Catalina G3's with this color scheme. I've seen photos of G3's with the bow racing stripe, but have not found another with the stripe and this red/white/blue color combination. We're glad to be aboard!

Hey Grindstone, welcome aboard!
That's a nice looking Catalina G3. I recall back in the day, seeing that Red, White and Blue scheme in a Glasspar ad. I've never seen one for real. Really a good look. Where are you located?

Hi Dean, thank you! It's great to become a member here. My sister and I have been proud owners of this Catalina G3 since its purchase from a Glasspar/Mercury dealer in Connecticut. Ever since then, the boat has been used on the St. Lawrence river in upstate New York. In the 40+ years that we've enjoyed her there I've never seen another G3 around, so we're dedicated to keeping the boat in first-class condition for as long as we can! Now the next generation of the family is starting to learn how much fun these boats can be--although best-suited for calm days on the water, since without a deep-V hull design it can get pretty bouncy out there on a rough day. I'm sure other G3 owners might agree!
The boat was underpowered from the start with the 50HP Merc, so it's only been in the last two years that we've been able to experience the joy of the boat's true performance capabilities, now that we have a 70HP motor. It seems like it's the ideal power level now.
I'm looking forward to exploring the site, and learning about other members' experiences with their G3's. I'm planning to shoot more photos of ours this coming summer, and maybe a video as well. If they might be of interest to fellow members, I'll be happy to post them here.
Thanks again for the warm welcome!
Tom
