Hello everyone,
A not so quick story. I am flirting with 70. Be that as it may. I have had my hand in the reclaiming, rehabbing and, or restoration of a Penn Yan Commander, Thompson Sport Speedster, Lyman center deck, Farmall Super A, Donzi 2+3, Century Resorter, SeaCraft SF20 and a '63 G3. The Commander and Thompson found duty training my three boys how not to dock a boat. The Farmall , Donzi and SeaCraft were assigned to keep me out of saloons and within the watchful eye of the Princess bride. My boys grew up. Who knew?!. The Resorter was upside down, in the garage, and had been for several years. I thought the boys would join me in its resurrection. They didn't. My middle boy became a skilled skier behind friends Mastercrafts. He came to me and asked if the "boat" in the garage could pull a skier. I replied " Mike, that boat will pull 12 skiers". I couldn't get ride of him. Number one son had graduated from college and put everything he owned into an old Chevy S10 Blazer and moved to Salt Lake City. Number three son graduated from High school and joined the Navy. Number two son had moved out of the house and into an apartment with his mates. This all happened within 90 days. Number two son and I spent 3+ years on the Resorter. 17', 1961, 327 AMC V8. Six pieces of original wood. Absolutely the best time a father could spend with a son. Remember number one and number three are gone. I gave him the boat. I entertained myself with the Lyman, Farmall and Donzi. I did this because the Princess bride is not comfortable boating. Swims like a brick. While entertaining myself I rehabbed a '76 SeaCraft SF20 Center console. "She who who must be obeyed" is now a boater!! I was done. A friend asked me what was next. I replied "leisure".... unless I found a Penn Yan Trail boat or a Glasspar G3 in need of attention. Alas, my friend calls three months later and informs me he has found my next project. A '63 G3 "in the weeds". Home it came. Now number three son is out of the Navy and is making noise about a Jet Ski. I say take a peek at what's in the garage. Wanna help? Hear we go again. Time with my youngest. Precious. I have pictures on my phone. I'll need to locate an eight year old to help me download them. Cap came off. Deck cut out and replaced. Bridge work under the fore deck and behind the dash replaced. Stringers opened, filled with closed cell foam, sealed and reinforced. New transom, Sponsons opened and filled with closed cell foam. Paint.. ( I can varnish but I sure can't paint!!!) Oh, and my brother located and rebuilt, restored a '64 Merc 65HP short shaft for me!!!! How about that!! All this with my youngest by my side ( He's 35!!!youngest sheesh!). The Resorter gave me the gift of time with number two son. The G3 has gifted me with my youngest. I couldn't be happier. And the G3 is about the coolest thing ever!! Thanks for tolerating me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
