Bought our first G-3 from a family member in 1959 while serving in the USN. Stock white with back spear, and Merc Mark58A (45hp). Took my wife of 52 yrs on our first date in the G-3 in 1960, married her in 1964, and while serving in the Navy, twas our primary entertainment. We'd buy $2.00 worth of fuel, make a tuna sandwhich, 6 pack of rolling rock, and go fishing till mosquitos drove us off the lakes in Groton, Ct. (see middle pic taken 1965) Had to sell that G-3 to pay for birth of first child in 1968. Swore someday we'd find another, and finally we have! See photo attached of 1966 G-3 red & white (pics with black merc) I found for sale in N.Y. state ! Had been part of a very wealthy mans (Jay Leno type) private collection since 1974. Last time it was launched was documented as 1974. Gentleman passed away and his wife sold the boat through a broker to me. I had it shipped to my current home in Colorado, and began minor clean-up work. Sanded with 1000 grit, polished, added black spear, replaced all rubber on engine, boat, and trailer. Upgraded to mechanical steering and larger tires. Put in a new battery and started instantly ! Runs great, and looks great. We have a winter home in Crystal River, Fla. and hope to bring it down to a rally this fall. Still doing some minor work, but keeping it stock as much as possible. This one will stay in the family long after I've passed, no more babies to pay for ! Ya think !!! Cannot tell you the memories we've made with a G-3 through the course of our lives, but she's as much a family member as the daughter the first one was sacrificed for ! Would love to post latest pictures but 1mb restriction prohibits the uploads ! Working on it .... making progress.

Nice story, Lonewolf. I have a '66 also, and a '60. I like the '66 best as I am tall and the centerdeck is a little tight. Keep enjoying it.

I hear ya on the centerdeck, I'm 6'2" as well, and find the 66' a lot more comfortable. But have to admit, my 22' Mirage provides us with the most comfort, but even with a 350 small block, only 1/2 the fun!

Lonewolf: Great story Sir! Much like your story with the G-3's, I now have possession of our "one-family" owned 1960 G-3. My Dad ordered our boat new way back in 1959 and took delivery of it in early 1960. I learned how to ski behind it and it was used by my older Brother, them me, then my younger Brother. After my Dad died he left it to me and I did a complete "refurbish" of the boat in 2009-2010. It had been well taken care of and "garage kept" it's entire life, much like the 1966 G-3 you have. Many, many great memories in our 1960 G-3 and we intend to hand the boat off to our Son eventually. Our 1960 G-3 has the original red gelcoat which is 56 YEARS OLD NOW! If your interested, here is a link to the thread containing our "refurbish" info over on the www.classicglasspar.com website: g3-owners.boards.net/thread/6/refurbish-1960-3

Thanx johnp ... sounds like we had similiar youthful memories with G-3's. Learned to water-ski behind my 59' as well. I went with relatives to the NYC Boat show in 1959 and that's where they purchased the first one. The Mark 58A was available in white ... and it really looked classy on the white/black G-3. I remember there was actually a line trying to purchase them at that show , I believe the price was $700 or so "show price", windshield was extra Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedI bought it from relative for $500 plus a 1950 ford ! Gonna keep tweeking this 1966 till she's perfect, then will probably will her to my grandaughter. I'm tall so I prefer the walkthru in the 66', but still like the look of the 59' I'm with you on the great memories around this lil' boat ...... pete
