Hi Dean and gang, joined last April with a 59 center deck #41 built here in WA. "saved from the grinder" and well I hoped it was just the transom needing work. But after getting into it, it's turning into a like "Second Chance"s rebuild .....except for the expert needed, lol it's only my second transom. And my Dad was still around to guide and council. All ground smooth first transom piece cut, skeleton frame built, ready to laydown hull cloth then onward and upward. got a question about replacing the cable steering, the boat has original cable pulley and mounting except for original wheel has a 10" rusted "cal custom" foam cheese wheel. I have a 1990's Johnson 70hp with power trim. right hand steering. Length, NFB, ? thanks all. I totally get it when a friend stopped by that hadn't seen her yet, "Sweeet fun" yep I'm hooked All my pic are over 2mb's ?? still haven't figured it out yet. Thanks Again it's been great wealth of information and inspiration, Badger

Badger: When we did the "restoration" on our 1960 G-3 I also decided to go with a newer outboard motor, a 2009 Mercury 50 H.P. 2-stroke. With that in mind some friends of mine recommended going with a more modern steering system, namely, a "Bay Star" Hydraulic Steering System. FWIW,...our 1960 G-3 also had the old "cable and pulley" system before I got the boat. I can tell you without a doubt that putting that "Bay Star" Hydraulic Steering System on our G-3 was one of the BEST things I did to upgrade the boat! The system is very easy to steer, there is no vibration or "pulling" as we had with the old "cable and pulley" system. If you shop around on some of the boating websites you can find some good deals on the hydraulic systems. I have attached a link to our "restoration" if you want to look at some pictures of what the system looks like on the front of the outboard motor: www.classicglasspars.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&view=topic&catid=2&id=23809&Itemid=535I hope this has helped you some Sir! Good luck.

Thank you johnp I know it's a ways off, but just wondering if people are still using it? or what they use to replace it. I'll check it out thanks for your input.
