Hi Dean, I do plan on putting that strip and the other under the splash well. What would be a good height for them? It seems to me that they just keep things from sliding around so they could be fairly short. Thanks....Neel

Hi Neel, As you know the board is cut so it mounts at an angle to match the center deck support. On the aft side, I measure 3-3/8".... 2" would be much better. Not sure what I was thinking at the time, but its tight (and a real pain) to put a full fuel tank in there. Attachment DeletedDean

I have been in Florida since January 10th, but have returned to Pennsylvania and started back up on the G3. I flipped the hull on Sunday, sanded all of the bad areas and filled with West System epoxy thickened with 407 Fairing Compound. The aft 8 to 10" of the bottom flared up quite a bit. I put four or five layers of 17 OZ. fiberglass tape across that area with each layer being narrower than the one before. After wetting everything out I covered the fiberglass with fairing compound. Now for some sanding and final filling before paint. I plan to paint the hull with Awlgrip, using the roll and tip technique. Yesterday I bought a used trailer (Karavan) on Craigslist. It can carry 1250#. My 90 Evinrude has been rebuilt and is ready to install when I get to that point. Here are some pictures:

I am in about the same state of reconstruction. We did a lot of the same things.

Right on Neel,
It sure is satisfying to go from a freckled hull like that to one with a shiny, bright and smooth finish! It was by far the most memorable step of my resto. I also used Awlgrip, Neel. Though I had mine sprayed on by my body shop guy. While he is a very good painter, he wasn't familiar with Awlgrip, and it had a slight orange peel texture to it, so I wet sanded the whole thing and then he buffed it out... it came out perfect, looking like a brand new hull.

Well I have spent a few days with the sander/longboard, and I think the hull is ready for primer. I also picked up a used trailer on Craigslist and after a couple days work, got it ready to go. I will be applying the Awlgrip with a foam roller and tipping with a foam brush. I have a friend who has used this method successfully and it looks like it was sprayed on. We will see!!. I have the hull sanded with 80 grit, so I will go to 150, 220, and then 320 before priming.

I have sanded the hull and sides down to 320 grit and have applied two coats of Interlux Epoxy Primer. I will be sanding tomorrow and painting on Monday or Tuesday.

Here is the 90 HP Evinrude that has been completely rebuilt. I am thinking 13/19 prop. Any thoughts?

Hi Neel,
I did a quick look to find your gear ratio, I think your motor has the small gear case @ 2:1 ratio. If that's right, I agree with your choice 19P.
Motor looks really nice! Are you painting the hood with new decals too?
And your paint job looks great in the photos, how did the roll-n-tip go?

Hi Dean,
The motor has been sprayed with the same Awlgip color as the boat. I think I will put some motor decals on after we get the whole thing together. I did roll the Awlgrip on the hull with the white cigar rollers and they did a great job. I lightly tipped with a foam brush. The only problem I had was with some dust in the air. Nothing on the sides, but some small dust bumps on the bottom. Nothing I am worried about. I love the Awlgrip paint. I have flipped the hull back over and have started trying to figure out how to mate the deck to the hull. I am not going to use the metal rub rail, so I am thinking about using 3m 4000 with aluminum rivets. The aft sections will be glassed to the hull..... Neel

Neal The boat is looking great!!!!!! Dean, Neal obtained the boat from me and has been using my 100's of picture to restore this G 3. It has been fun seeing this boat return from the dead. In its prior life this boat had been turned into a "Bass " boat with a seat on the deck to boot!! The boat was a real mess, and needed a complete restoration, very similar to my G3. We should see how the Evenrude 90 does vs the Merc 90 ! Attachment DeletedSteve

I have flipped the hull back over and fitted the deck to it. I had to squeeze the hull sides a little to get the deck to fit. I riveted the deck to the hull and will not be using the original G3 rubrail. It is a good feeling having it in one piece again. I have sanded the deck down to the fiberglass and only have a few more areas to finish. I also have trimmed and fitted the motor well, so that's ready to be glassed in. I will post a few replies here so I can get more pictures in....All take care,,,,Neel
