Fineally got to the water and had my first test and tune. All went well little heating problem but got that taken care of. Still may have some boating days before winter sets in. She handled very good and very fast, had snot and tears running around my face and dripping off my ears but I was having so much fun I didn't care. Can't wait until I can really get in some time on the water and not working on it.

Now, lets see....First sentence says, finally got it in the water, and it overheated...... awesome. Since this update was posted a month ago, I can deduct that you have NOT had "some more boating days before winter sets in"....its ok, though, you and your merk will be spending many quality (?) hours over the winter, "tinkering"......its what merk guys do! And maybe, that nasty head cold you developed from working on your silo in the chill of OCTOBER, will clear up before springtime. If not, just look at the bright side- the snot in your ears will muffle out most of that annoying clatter coming from the transom area of your boat!!! And, yes, I can certainly understand the tears.....but better get used to that, at least until you see the, OMC V4 LIGHT!!!! I predict many more tears will be shed in the summer months ahead, while everyone else is BOATING and you are ...."tinkering", but like you said in your post above, you will have "so much fun" tinkering, that you wont care....hehehe! And your last line is CLASSIC words from every merc owner that ever lived!!!! HAHAHAHA!!! and I quote, "CAN'T WAIT UNTIL I CAN GET IN SOME TIME ON THE WATER AND NOT WORKING ON IT" good luck with that, my friend. My advice? get that cooler stocked up with CORONAS!!!! NUT

Dean maybe the second time ever I agree with Dean!!! Hes right though- I never cry like the murk people because my mighty JOHNSON V4 is ALWAYS ready to rumble!!! I DO however, suffer from severe repeated cases of BUGS IN MY TEETH!!!!! 3 rolls of floss is in my toolbox every trip to the lake!!!! Guess I miss out on a lot of the "fun" Peyton is talking about while tinkering with his true love while he is sitting at the dock...."HERES TO MURK POWERED "SNOT AND TEARS"!!!! bravo... I will drink to THAT! HA! enjoy! NUT

Well it's always good to hear form the Nut ,he does come up with a good one ever now and then. I guess you have to have a good sense of humor to put a fishing motor on the back of a classic speed boat hehe. He is a real team player and keeps the G3 Glasspar name out there and that's a good thing for all G3 owners , he takes a lot of pride in his G3 with its little motor, and I think it's very commendable that he don't mind playing on the B team and letting the big boys and the Big Black Merks do the real playing So Nut stand tall be proud and always remember no matter what anyone says there's nothing wrong with playing second string.

Well it's the Big Black Merks do the real playing So Nut stand tall be proud and always remember no matter what anyone says there's nothing wrong with playing second string. HAPPY EGGNOG HOLIDAY TO YOU GUYS TOO!!!!!! Peyton, your post brings to mind a story that I would like to relate to you from the maiden voyage of my G3. So, get comfy, and make yourself a snack. This is good! My maiden voyage took place years ago, when I had the wimpy, 49 cubed, 3 cyl Evinrude HUSTLER 75 on my G3. My Dad had recently finished the no expense spared restoration of his G3 and even went out and purchased a brand new, California illegal, 60HP, PROPSHAFT RATED, short shaft......."Big Black" MERCURY (gasp!) for his transom!!!!! Since Dad had always been an OMC guy, this was confirmation he was finally, indeed, losing his marbles. Dad owned a beautiful home right on the water on the California delta, with a dock and hydrolift hoist so seemed the perfect place for a .....SHOWDOWN! Me, with my tired old, wimpy, 49 cubed, 3 cyl, 1975 Evinrude and budget built G3 VS. Dad in his immaculate, custom painted and upholstered, one off, G3 powered by Mercurys state of the art, shiny black....NUT BUSTER!!!! to be continued......... sorry for the delay- went back through the old archived forum to see If I could just copy and paste the original story, but its gone. Anywho....when I pulled up to Dads place, he had already test ran his intimidating looking machine, and selected the prop he thought would put my old HUSTLER away in his roostertail. I had been thinking my strategy out in my mind for the two hour drive it took to arrive. Knowing the little looper lacked the torque of a mighty V4, I decided to run the prop I used for skiing, to give me a good holeshot on Dad, then hammer the throttle and just let her WIND!!!! We idled along side each other until out of the no wake zone. As the 5mph bouy approached, I was a bit nervous about the ability of my wimpy little Evinrude, against that gleaming new MERC. Dad looked smug and confident, so once into the fast water, he started the countdown. 3, 2,.....1- GO!!!!!!!!! Dad got a slight jump on his throttle over me, but both boats lept on plane at nearly the same rate which put me behind slightly at the start. As the RPMS climbed, I was able to make up the lost ground, but Dads Merc was picking up speed too! We were neck and neck as we reached WOT rpm- and there we stayed. Keeping our throttles glued down hard, neither of us could declare a decisive win. Back at his dock, we had a beer and noted that it was a good race. I was not satisfied with the tie, and wanted a clear WIN for team OMC, so I took a chance on a different strategy for round 2. I swapped out my 17" SST ski prop to a 19" SST knowing I would be beaten badly by that pesky Merc out of the hole. We finished our beers and headed out to the fast water once again. This time, I got to countdown, and was quicker on my throttle at the count of 1. But, the snappy holeshot of the ski prop was a distant memory and this time, my wimpy Hustler struggled to get the G3 on plane under the load of the 19"er. Dads Merc had 2 boat lengths on me by the time I got on plane, but as my RPM climbed, I was making ground on him. We both kept the hammers down and Dads Merc had quickly topped out. But my trusty old HUSTLER was still gaining rpm, and SPEED!!! It was a moment I will cherish forever. The look on Dads face as I went by him was priceless. Last thing I saw, was him beating his throttle lever with his fist, hoping to coax a bit more outta his shiney, 'big black" Merc. It was useless though, as my HUSTLER had now put Dad behind and he was tasting the spray from my 19" SST!! I did not let up on my throttle until I put nearly 1/4 mile between us, then turned around to see of maybe he wanted a tow back to his dock....hehehe! It was a glorious win for TEAM OMC, and yes, Peyton, I do stand tall, knowing that that infamous HUSTLER 75 is now on a stand in my backyard, and my G3 is now graced with the ULTIMATE power on her transom- the MIGHTY JOHNSON V4- playing "second string" to NO ONE!!!!!!! HA! NUT

Hey Nut that was a great story I've been traveling and just noticed it. i think that it is great when someone tells stories about experiences with there dad it all ways reminds me of all the good times I had with mine. We were close like that to and we had many great times even though we were quit competitive also. I can remember once we were at the drag strip and running in the same class we both won round one and two so that put us head to head in the finals both running big block Chevys with a ton of hp , when the lights started down the tree he got me off the line and half way down the track he had me two car lengths but when I hit my last gear I got him at the line all most a photo finish , i always wondered if he lifted at the last min. You know dads are like that they like to let there little boys win even at any cost . Not saying that's what happened in your case but how else could you explain a Johnson beating a Big Black Merk? i'll drink one for you and your dad you have a very Mary Christmas.
